Faith/Eliza Ann Harker Bennion Black wax pencil on Bristol paper |
Artist Statement: Created in black wax pencil on Bristol paper, my drawing of Eliza Ann Harker Bennion, my great grandmother on my father’s side, reflects a moment of prayer and reflection in her active and busy life. From a pioneering family, her parents were among those who followed Brigham Young to Utah. A woman of great faith, she served as teacher, counselor, and president of the Relief society for many years and worked in the religion class. Bio: From my earliest memories, my passion for detail and admiration for the primitive Flemish and 16th Century Dutch masters have been a guiding influence. Since moving to France (a country that cherishes past and present) in 1994, a major focus has become creating that juxtaposition in my subject matter. Into that mix, I am now adding the element of tributes to influencing factors in my life: religion, family, animals, books, music, friends, art, etc. Even as I create my own style, always, we artists rest upon the shoulders of those masters who came before us. |
