Las Acequias del Senor Siempre Van Llenas Photograph |
Artist Statement: This is the first time I submit a photograph to an ECVA exhibit rather than an oil or pastel. Years ago I read a Spanish translation of Psalm 65 which instead of talking about the “rivers of God” being full, translated it as the “Irrigation Canals of God Always Run Full”. This image is an especially potent one in the desert southwest where I live, in a fertile area riddled with irrigation canals which are the farmers’ only hope of converting dry but fertile land into crops. What an image of hope for me is a full irrigation canal with a current ! Both the visual image and the words move me deeply. God’s irrigation canals are ALWAYS full. Bio: I grew up as a child drawing and painting and surrounded by artwork. As an adult I studied painting under John Stovall in Galveston and studied drawing and printmaking with Kim and Theresa Bauer in El Paso, Texas which has been my home since 1989. My spiritual background includes 2 1/2 years in a Benedictine convent in Mexico City and 34 years of 12-step recovery. |
