Through a Dark Tree

Photograph

Artist Statement: Immediately this tree put me in touch with layers of hope. This past Holy Week and Easter this photograph was an image of the events remembered and celebrated. The photo also revealed all of God at work: the Trinity working God’s magic.

I saw the light as a gift of the tree, and all of it a gift of the Creator. For years the spirit has tugged at my heart through this photograph. It brings peace and confidence in being loved. There is chaos in the branches, pointing everywhere the resurrection is proclaimed and presented by this and another dark tree.

Bio: Richard Bellows focuses on strange beauty that often involves the sky and trees and water. He looks for chaotic systems, that show both order and disorder, reflecting God's whimsey and the divine playfulness with creation. He lives in western Massachusetts with his wife and camera. He enjoys hiking, kayaking, and visits with his grown children, usually with his camera (or his phone).
